Patellar Tendon Graft
Patellar Tendon ACL Reconstruction
The human patellar tendon is flat, broad, and attached to bone on both ends. The central third of the tendon can be used along with bone plugs from the patella and the upper end of the tibia.
This graft has a very long track record as it was the one that was originally used as arthroscopic techniques and modern minimally invasive surgical techniques evolved.
This graft has excellent strength, is ideally sized in terms of length and diameter, and allows early bone-to-bone healing.
Overall, this graft has the best long term results in terms of stability. However, it is associated with pain in the front of the knee (donor site pain) stiffness, and patella fractures (through the donor site).
